Why Taking Care Of Your Thoughts Is So Important



Why are our thoughts so important?

Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words. Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions. Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits. Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character. Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny. — Chinese proverb


When we think a particular thought,( for example, I’m not good enough) it tends to then create a certain feeling, (of sadness) and that feeling then brings about an action, (eat ice cream, or cry or isolate yourself) and that action then creates a consequence. (More feelings of despair, more isolation, more comfort eating). If we can start with a positive thought,  or change the negative one to a more self serving one, (I am enough) then the feeling that follows will not be uncomfortable, and you are less likely to act in a self sabotaging way or behave negatively towards yourself, and therefore, the consequence will have a happier outcome.

Our thoughts can become so strong that we hold onto them and really believe them to be facts, but the beautiful thing is, that they are not facts, and we can change them at any time. So nurturing our thoughts has a huge impact on our happiness and mental state. Our mind is like a garden, we need to water our flowers so that they can nourish and grow, just like our thoughts.
