Doctors couldn’t believe their eyes when this little bundle of joy was born with bright white hair. The whole world is wondering what could have caused this healthy baby to have hair as pale as winter?
The baby’s mother knew the secret behind this snowy mane….
What Was Normal?
Baby Bence was born weighing almost 12 pounds, and his height was normal at 21 inches. It is a little abnormal for a baby to be born with a full head of hair, but what is even more astonishing about this baby is that this full head of hair was bright white!
Testing The Tot
This sweet newborn’s hair clearly represented a pigmentation deficiency, so doctors gave the baby a blood test to determine exactly what it was.
Only In His Hair
After examining the blood test results, the doctor found that low melanin was, in fact, a contributing factor in the baby’s white hair. However, the mystery had not yet been solved. Surely low levels of melanin would result in missing pigment in the skin also? It just didn’t add up.
Other doctors argued that the white hair could be due to an illness or even a symptom of prenatal stress. Infants are more prone to stress and anxiety if the mother was stressed when pregnant. Other complications can include low birth weight, higher risk of infection, and premature birth.
So was this the case?
Confusion or no confusion, the hospital staff just couldn’t get enough of this adorable baby, with a head full of fluffy white hair. His new nickname around the hospital has become “Prince Charming.” The doctors were still knocking their heads together as to the main cause, and wondered if his hair would get darker over time.
The new born’s rare appearance has quickly gained a huge following and a lot of attention. A few followers have openly argued with the doctors who thought that the hair might grow dark. They say that there is a definite reason that the baby’s hair will stay bright white.
The Public Gets Involved
Many following the story believe that the reason for this remarkable outcome is albinism. But what did the doctors think of this diagnosis? Albinism is a rare condition caused by an absence of the pigment melanin, which causes white skin, light hair, and can even vision problems. The condition affects around 1 in 17,000 people worldwide. Was this the case for baby bence?
The Right Diagnosis
One commentator felt the need to mention on social media their personal story “It can be under diagnosed. One of my grandchildren had a similar situation. It was brought to our attention by the eye doctor when he was 2. He is now 12 and is considered legally blind.”
All Too Familiar
Another follower of this case stated: “My daughter was born with hair like that. She has dirty blonde hair now and some pigment. The doctors put their heads together for a conclusion, but what they came up with may not be what people expected.
Hoping For Healthy
According to doctors, white hair in babies is in fact usually associated with genetics. Often, it can be caused by vitamin B12 deficiency or even mutant hair cells.
What Is It Then?
What is the diagnosis you may be wondering? Well, doctors believe that it could, in fact, be albinism which can be associated with severe vision and skin problems later in life, and this is not what the doctors want for their prince charming. They needed to make sure that everything would be ok, so they ran more tests.
Albino Babies From Africa
Did you know that rare Albinos exist in Tanzania, but they grow up living in fear of witch doctors who are desperate for their body parts? However, the brutal attacks from witch doctors are not the only threat that they face in their daily lives. Will this adorable baby face torment when he grows up?
A Silent Killer
The biggest threat that Albinos have to deal with on a daily basis is the lack of melanin in their skin, which means that there is nothing to protect them from the harsh climate and strong sun rays. This means that they run an extremely high risk of skin cancer.
A Sight For Sore Eyes
The doctors warned that that growing up, the baby will need to have regular check-ups for sight, but otherwise, there should be no complications. Of course, the mother of three was extremely relieved. What comes next is so rare and interesting, you won’t believe your eyes.
Rare Japanese Albinos
This little Japanese girl was born with a rare case of albinism. She looks adorable.
Albinos Worldwide Come Together
The World Albinism Alliance (WAA) was created in 2011, to bring together different Albinism Societies worldwide.
Imagine being born looking totally different to your siblings and community?
In some communities, it is thought that albinos bring luck.
In 2015, in Tanzania, an albino gentleman became a Nominated MP for Special Interest Groups. He even launched an awareness campaign on albinism during the Tanzania general election. He claimed that albinos in Tanzania are in great danger.
A Very Rare Sight
This loving mother is making sure her children don’t get skin damage from the hot sun.
In African communities there are many groups and events to raise awareness about albinism, and also to make many that are born with the condition realize that they are still human and there is much more to them than just their complexion.
A Sight For Sore Eyes
This rare photo shows young Indian boys that were born with albinism, and due to the condition are sadly blind.
Not Like Mother Like Daughter
This interesting picture shows that just because one parent has albinism, doesn’t mean that it will carry down to the offspring. This baby doesn’t have any sign of the condition. So when baby bence grows up this could mean the same.
However, this incredible shot shows 4 generations of an Indian Albino family.
As for baby bence it will be interesting to see if his hair will grow darker once he grows up like doctors predicted.
